Richard Dyantyi

Richard Dyantyi

Qubudile Richard Dyantyi (b. October 25, 1968, Burgersdorp) is the current Provincial Minister of Local Government and Housing in Western Cape province. He is a member of the African National Congress.

He became known in South African municipal politics after he had led an unsuccessful effort in 2006 to replace the Unicity government of the City of Cape Town with a centralized executive mayor system, which would have stripped the current mayor of the municipality, Helen Zille, of her powers as mayor.

He was fired as MEC for Local Government and Housing on July 31, 2008 by Lynne Brown, alongside Leonard Ramatlakane.
