United Lutheran Mission Association

United Lutheran Mission Association

=History=

The United Lutheran Mission Association was established at a meeting in Chicago on July 16, 2005. There, representatives of two formerly LCMS congregations, Pilgrim Lutheran Church of Decatur, Illinois, and Redeemer Lutheran Church of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, began work on establishing new Lutheran congregations in the United States. As of 2008 the ULMA has two mission congregations. The first is Sola Scriptura of Milwaukee, Wisconsin whose first service was November 20, 2005. The second is Agnus Dei in Fredericksburg, Virginia which held its first service in December, 2007.

tructure

This group, like the Protes'tant Conference, does not follow traditional Lutheran ecclesiastical structures or the preferred polity of the Lutheran Confessions. The voters assembly is the supreme authority in the congregation. There is no central office or centralized organizational structure other than the individual representatives that meet in January and July of each year. They do not train their own pastors. ULMA clergy are trained in the seminaries of other denominations, such as the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.
