Arno Brandner is a fictional character on German soap opera "Verbotene Liebe (Forbidden Love)". Arno has been played by Konrad Krauss since the show's beginning in 1995.

Arno is the father of Jan (Andreas Bruckner) and Julia von Anstetten (Valerie Niehaus). The siblings lived separated since their birth. Jan lived with Arno and Julia and their mother Clarissa von Anstetten (Isa Jank) and is adopted by her husband Christoph (Jürgen Zartmann). Arno is also the father of Florian (Alex Huber) and Susanne (Claudia Scarpatetti). Florian and Susanne are the children from his first late wife Iris (Regina Nowack).

Character's background

Arno is a successful building contractor and has his own company, 'Brandner Bau'. His first wife Iris leaves him, after she finds out, that Arno had a one-night-stand with Clarissa, the mother of his first two children. Clarissa and Arno had a long fight together to keep Jan und Julia from each other. They lived separated and didn't know that the other exist. Then Jan meets Julia at the airport and falls in love with her, not knowing that she is his sister. Julia falls in love with Jan too and both are shocked, when Clarissa and Arno tell them, that they are brother and sister. Jan and Julia begins to fight with their forbidden feelings and Arno is heartbroken to see that his children have to deal with it. Julia gets engaged, but on the altar it turns out, that her finance is gay. On Iris' funeral, Julia meets Tim Sander, Iris' brother, and marries him soon later. When Julia gets pregnant Clarissa and Arno have the suspicion, that Julia's unborn child might be from Jan. Clarissa tells Tim about that and flips out. Julia flee to Lanzarote and Jan follows her. Both have a wonderful day together, before Julia gets lost in the sea. Arno and everybody believes that Julia is dead, but Jan searches for her. But then, he gives up his hope and gets into a new relationship. Later, Jan gets a letter from Julia, that she is in Paris and she wants that he comes to her. Julia and Jan were never seen again in Düsseldorf.

After the death of his first wife and Jan and Julia left, Arno meets Elisabeth Ryan in 1999. Later he marries her and is happy, when his son Florian returns. Arno has later to fight about the custody for his nieces Jana (Vanessa Jung) and Nico (Verena Zimmermann). But the new happiness isn't for long. As Nico finds out, that Achim isn't her father, she leaves the house and searches for her father, who turns out as Johannes von Lahnstein (Thomas Gumpert). His son Florian and his wife Isabel (Tanja Wenzel) are gone too. They search her happiness in Mailand.
