Johnsson was the first champion of the
European Badminton Championships , and he won a total of three gold medal in men's singles, in 1968, 1970 and 1974 [Pat Davis, The "Guinness Book of Badminton" (Enfield, Middlesex, England: Guinness Superlatives Ltd., 1983) 115.] . In 1978 he won a bronze medal.
