- Clubflyers
Clubflyers is a
brand name for marketing and promotional handouts used by nightclubs, restaurants and bars throughout the United States and Europe. Clubflyers is a registered trademark of Graphics, Type & Color Enterprises, Inc. ( [http://www.gtcmedia.com GTC Media] ). It is an invented word, owned and used as a trademark by GTC Meida since June 22, 1997. Clubflyers products are manufactured mostly in the United States and Western Europe by a handful of competing companies. Although the Clubflyers name is trademarked, the term has been generalized throughout the printing and promotions industry. In addition, the term is commonly used in the publishing industry which produces titles dealing with the graphic design aspect of Clubflyers on a yearly basis.History
In the early 1990s, club culture began to take on a different form. As competition grew so did the need to advertise. Originally, flyers were simple designs photocopied onto plain paper. Over a short period of time and with the advent of desktop publishing software, elaborately designed pieces began to emerge. Along with the advances in creativity came advances in the actual printed piece. The Clubflyer evolved into a much more sophisticated series of oversized prints and glossy UV coated handouts which pushed the boundaries of the printing processes.
The graphic design elements of the Clubflyer have been chronicled in various coffee table books from major publishing houses. The innovative graphics slowly made their influence into mainstream graphic design. They have been a source of influence and an easy entry into the industry for aspiring graphic designers.
