Evinrude Outboard Motors is a major brand of outboard boat motors. Founded by
Ole Evinrude , it was formerly owned by theOutboard Marine Corporation (OMC), and is now owned byBombardier Recreational Products .Evinrude outboards use primarily
two stroke engines in their larger models (40 horsepower and above), and four stroke engines in most of their smaller models.Evinrude outboards used
carburetor s until the late 1990s, when FICHT, a fuel injection technology, was introduced. After Bombardier acquired the Evinrude and
Johnson Outboards brands, FICHT technology was replaced byE-TEC direct fuel injection. This improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, oil usage, noise levels, and maintenance needs. Evinrude E-TEC was the first outboard engine technology to win the American Environmental Protection Agency 2005 Clean Air Excellence Award which recognizes lowemission levels. It is also recognized as acceptable for use by theEuropean Union .Evinrude the dragonfly, a character from
Disney 'sThe Rescuers , was likely inspired by this company--the dragonfly mans a leaf as a sort ofairboat in several scenes.External links
