Talbot Combined School

Talbot Combined School

Talbot Combined School is a school for around 520 4-12 year old pupils sited in Wallisdown, Poole, Dorset. Its catchment area is the Poole half of the local Wallsidown/Talbot area (Bournemouth is the otherside of the boundary) & children also come from around Alder Hills and over the border. The school colours are green and yellow and are shown on the uniform. The school's symbol is a dog.

The school opened in January 1969 as a primary and became a 'combined school' in the 1970s for children up to 12 (year 7) is in when Poole went '3 tier' although it is likely that when schools are reverted to 2 tier the school will simpily become a primary school again.

The main building is typical late 1960s with a flat roof & doors opening onto the playground. An onside swimming pool opened in 1971 which is used by the school & other local schools from parts of Poole. A band room was built in 1980 for the choir and band to use & a changing room block was built in 1985. In September 1999 a new 10 classroom building was opened by Tony Blair (then Prime Minister) & David Blunkett (then Secretary of State for Education & Employment) which also included state of the art computer facilities. During the early years of the school's life there were two donkeys, Pebble & Dash & the school backed onto the local Talbot Village farm although this area is all housing now although the school still has a large field & playgrounds.
