Yvonne Lim (Chinese:林湘萍, pinyin: Lín Xīangpíng) is a Singaporean actress who has starred in many drama serials on Mediacorp Channel 8 since 1997.

Yvonne was the first runner-up in the Singapore Polytechnic Beauty Quest and a finalist with Go Magazine's Cover Girl Contest before she joined Star Search in 1997. She was offered a full-time artiste contract with MediaCorp Studios and was given the lead role in her debut TV drama, "Starting Point", where she played a young entrepreneur, which was well received by audiences.

Her performance were recognised when she was voted as one of the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes in the Star Awards 1998.

She also recorded and released a solo Mandarin album in the year 2000. In 2002, she also teamed up with Hong Kong ATV station in a 30-part courtroom drama "Innocently Guilty", also starring Anita Yuen, Kent Cheng and Felix Wong.

Early life and education

Yvonne Lim was born in Singapore on 28 September 1976 to Hokkien parents. She studied in Singapore Polytechnic where she was talent-spotted.

Her favourite subject in school is Mathematics and she qualifies with a Polytechnic Diploma.

Career

Yvonne Lim was nominated for Best Newcomer and Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes in the Star Awards 1998 after her debut "Starting Point". Although she did not manage to win the 'Best Newcomer 1998', she was voted into the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes for that year.

Her subsequent progress was fairly slow, mainly appearing in minor supporting roles ("A Child's Hope", "The Vagrant"). Some attribute this trend to her petite build, which dwarf her in comparison to other actresses. However, her career started to pick up again in 1999 with her role of an unfortunate girl lost in the crowds of Singapore in the early 20th century in "Stepping Out".

In 2005, she appeared in "A New Life (television drama)" as a poor but contented woman and was nominated for Best Actress 2005, but lost the award to Huang Bi Ren.The other serial she appeared in, "Portrait of Home" made her the Best Supporting Actress 2005.

In 2006, her stock rose even further when she landed the lead role in "An Enchanted Life", a story of a Taiwanese Betel Nut Girl who journeys to Singapore in search of her long lost father.

She also starred in the hit drama "Metamorphosis" in 2007, which granted her the coveted Best Actress Award 2007. This award was an important milestone for her as it led to her rising popularity.

Yvonne appeared on variety game shows in 2008 like 'The Giant Show' and 'Let's Party With Food!', about a month after winning the Best Actress 2007.

She has recently appeared in Mediacorp's Lunar New Year Show 2008, showing the latest fashion of the 12 Zodiacs with the other female artistes. She represented the 'Rabbit'.

Yvonne said in an interview with xin.sg in Mandarin : "I'm very happy that Mediacorp has given me this chance. Even though I missed the Top 10(Most popular artistes) award for 9 years, I am very happy that I am always nominated for the past 10 years.".Despite the fact that she has only won 'Top 10 Most Popular Artistes' once (in 1998), her happy-go-lucky attitude has been recognised by her fans.
