Sharik Currimbhoy

Dr. Sharik Currimbhoy, PhD is the vice-president & chief operating officer of the Shahnaz Husain Group of Companies [ [http://www.shahnaz.in Shahnaz Husain Group of Companies] ] . The company is the category creator and the market leader in the premium segment of natural cosmetics in India. He is a well-known Indian businessman.

From his father's side, Dr. Currimbhoy is the great grandson of Sir Currimbhoy, the only Indian muslim baronet. The family was known for its philanthropy, including the Currimbhoy Ebrahim Khoja Orphanage, Rahimtoola Currimbhoy School, Mumbai University's Sir Currimbhoy Education Scholarship for doctoral research, the complex of the Cowasji Jehangir Hall (now the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai) and the Institute of Science, amongst others. For this a major road in Mumbai's business district has been called Currimbhoy Road, where major companies like Bharat Petroleum (Indian Oil) are headquartered.

Currimbhoy is the grandson of Princess Shahnaz Husain, who is the founder of the company that Currimbhoy now helps to run besides his grandmother. From this side he belongs to a royal Muslim family which migrated from Samarkhand to India as part of the ravaging muslim tribes and later held high positions in the princely kingdoms of Bhopal and Hyderabad before India's independence.

Biography

Sharik Currimbhoy was born in New Delhi, India on August 24th, 1980. He completed his schooling at St Columba's School in New Delhi,where he graduated in 1998.

In 2002 completed a B.A. in Economics at Columbia University where he was President of the Columbia University Economics Society, and later the President of CORE- The Columbia Organization of Rising Entrepreneurs, where he raised $50,000 to hold the first Columbia Undergraduate Business Plan Competition.

After graduating from Columbia University Mr. Currimbhoy started a financial news company focusing on equity-research, called New Ratings [ [http://www.newratings.com New Ratings] ] . The company was a joint venture with aktiencheck de AG, a German news agency. He grew the company for three years before selling his stake to France Télécom, the parent company of Aktienchek.

In 2003, Mr. Currimbhoy returned to India to join his family business. Marriage

Dr. Sharik Currimbhoy is the great great grandson, and also the great grandson of Sir Currimbhoy Ebrahim, one of the leading industrialists in India during the early part of the 20th century.
