German Democratic Republic , from 1949 to 1990, it was closely connected to theAkademie der Wissenschaften der DDR . Since 1957, they are usingGottfried Wilhelm Leibniz , the founder of thePrussian Academy in 1770, and „theoria cum praxi“ as symbols.Most of the output was sold in East Germany and
Eastern Bloc , as it was regarded with suspicion in the West due to communist influence.Yet, it managed to build enough reputation to survive after the fall of the
Berlin Wall . They lost independence, though. Since 1997 they are part ofR. Oldenbourg Verlag which in turn is owned since 2004 byCornelsen Verlag .Since the 1970s, several volumes of the
