The Artist

"Gladys Triana Perez" was born in Camaguey, Cuba, in 1934. Between 1972-1974, she resides in Spain. And since 1974, she resides in New York, U.S.A. She develops the painting, drawing, engraving, and sculpture.

Individual Exhibitions

She made in 1957 her first personal exhibitions in the Lyceum, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. In 1990 she exhibited "Gladys Triana Movement Fragmentation", in the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art (MOCHA), in New York, U.S.A. In 1995 she presented "The Path of Memory. An Installation by Gladys Triana", in The Bronx Museum of Art, in New York, U.S.A. And in 1997 she exhibited "Gladys Triana", in the Galerie Nesle, in Paris, France.

Collective Exhibitions

During her life she was part of many collective exhibitions. In 1972 she participated in the Bienal de Segovia, in Segovia, Spain. In 1973 she also participated in the I Festival Cubano de Arte, Cathedral St. John The Divine, in New York, U.S.A. In 1985 some of her works were selected to conform "Trends", in the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Arts (MOCHA), New York, U.S.A. In 1990 she was included in the "Sculpture into the 90s: Artists from the Americas", in the Museum of Modern Art of Latin American, Washington, D.C., U.S.A. And in 1996 she was one of the selected artists to conform "9 Cuban American Artists", in the Kingsborough Community College Art Gallery, City University of New York, in New York, U.S.A.

Awards

During her life she has been awarded with several distinctions and recognitions, among them we can mention the Second Prize, in the Bienal de Segovia, in Segovia, Spain, in 1972. In 1974 he was recognized with the National Prize for the Clairol Loving Care Scholarship Program, in New York, U.S.A. And in 1975 she obtained an Honorable Mention, in the Third Pan-American Art Festival, Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.

Collections

Her works can be found formed part of the relevant collections such as the Housatonic Museum of Art, Bridgeport, in Connecticut, U.S.A; in the Museo de Bellas Artes, Santiago de Chile, Chile; and in the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana, Cuba.
