Polizia Regionale

"Polizia regionale" ('Regional Police') is a general term used to identify regional-level police forces in Italy. Each of the five Autonomous regions; (Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Sardinia, Sicily, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, and the Aosta Valley) maintain their own police forces (more or less like the American county police, but with much less power). "Polizia Regionale" are small police organisations whose main duties are to enforce regional laws and national hunting and fishing laws but have also expanded into environmental protection. The forces' vehicles are usually white with a green or blue stripe along the side.

Note: These autonomous regions have been granted authority to enact their own regional legislation on some specific local matters; based on cultural grounds, geographical location and on the presence of important ethnic minorities.
