Francis Vernon (1715 – 15 October 1783)
Francis Vernon was an English politician, probably born at the family home at
Great Thurlow inWest Suffolk .In 1738, he was appointed to the post of Clerk to the Privy Council remaining until 1757.
On 14 January 1747 he married Alice Ibbetson. They had three sons, all of whom died young.Francis inherited his uncle’s estate at Nacton after the latter's death in 1757. During this time he purchased three Irish titles, all of which lapsed on his death.
From 1762 until 1765 he was
Lord of Trade between 1762 and 1765. From 1762 to 1768 he held the parliamentary seat forIpswich , as had various members of his family, starting with his uncle,Edward Vernon .In the mid 1770's Vernon rebuilt his uncle’s house and enclosed it within the grounds that he called Orwell Park, where he died on 15 October 1783. He was buried at
Nacton . His wife moved toBrighton , remaining there until her death in 1808.ources
