Tammy Bruce (born August 19, 1962) is an American radio host, writer, and political commentator. Her nationally-syndicated talk show, "The Tammy Bruce Show," airs on stations throughout the United States on Talk Radio Network. After having described herself as a classical liberal for years, she now identifies as an Independent Conservative. "The Tammy Bruce Show" broadcasts three hours a day, six days a week, including Saturdays. Bruce's Web site describes her as "an openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty" progressive feminist" who has voted for presidents as diverse as President Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Career

For seven years, Bruce served as president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) (1990-1996), the longest continuous tenure in the chapter's 30-year history. She mobilized activists locally and nationally on a whole range of issues, including women's image in media, child care, health care, violence against women, economics, and domestic violence. She also served two years on the board of directors for NOW, which she heavily criticizes in her last book. During the early 1990s, she spearheaded the campaign to bring awareness to the sexualized violence in the book "American Psycho" by calling for a boycott of all other books published by Knopf for one year.

Bruce resigned from her position as president of Los Angeles NOW in June 1996 a few months after then-National NOW president Patricia Ireland held a press conference in Washington, DC accusing Bruce of racism during the O.J. Simpson murder trial. After months of infighting, Bruce resigned, and in the decade-plus that has transpired, has written extensively on what she sees as the failings of NOW and the leftist movement in general, and the abandonment of authentic feminism by the American feminist establishment. Personal life

At 17, Bruce was romantically involved with "Days of our Lives" star Brenda Benet. In an interview on C-SPAN's "BookTV", Bruce revealed that she discovered the body of Ms. Benet after she committed suicide by gunshot.
