- Ping King Tien
Dr. Ping King Tien 田炳耕 (August 2, 1919 - ) is an
electrical engineer noted for his contributions tomicrowave amplifiers andintegrated optical circuit s.Tien was born in Chekiang (
Zhejiang ),China , and received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering fromNational Central University (1942), and his masters (1948) and PhD (1951) fromStanford University . He then joinedBell Labs to work withJohn Robinson Pierce , eventually becoming head of Electronics Research (1959), Electron-Physics Research (1966), Micro-Electronics Research (1980), High Speed Electronics Research (1984), and fellow in the Photonics Research Laboratory (1989).Tien is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, academician of
Academia Sinica , fellow of theInstitute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers andOptical Society of America , and member of theThird World Academy of Sciences . He received the 1979IEEE Morris N. Liebmann Memorial Award "for contributions to integrated optics technology."References
