SJK(C) Han Chiang is a national-type primary school located in Jalan Lim Lean Teng,
Penang ,Malaysia .History
The school was founded in 1919 by The Teow Chew Association of Penang. The school was first located at a small site. Constructions of the building started in 1919 and completed in 2 years time. The new building was launched on 10 October 1922. In 1960, the school was made a national-type primary school. Due to the increasing number of students and the need of a school block, Mr.Lim Lean Teng, PJK gave the school and
Han Chiang High School a big piece of land measuring 33 acres. Due to his great effort, a statue was dedicated in memory of him in Han Chiang High School. The statue was opened in 1958 by the former prime minister of Malaysia,Tunku Abdul Rahman . Construction of the school block commenced in 1961 and was completed in 1962. In October 1962, the school moved in to their new school block. Student enrolment at that time was high,reaching the 1,700 mark on 1970s. In the 90s, the Han Chiang Board Of Directors decided to build a new school block as they are worried that the student enrolment may further increase. Work started in 1994. The foundation stone was laid in 1995. The building was completed in 1996 and it was launched on 17 August 1998 by the then Chief Minister OfPenang , Tan Sri Dr.Koh Tsu Koon . Since then, the Board Of Director Tan Sri Dato Tan Kok Ping annouced that the school will celebrate it's school anniversary every year on 18 August to commerate this significant event. On 2007, the Teow Chew Assocation annouced that the real school anniversary date was on 10 October. In conjunction with the school's 88th anniversary in 2007, the Han Chiang Board Of Directors allocated some money to repaint the school. At present in 2008, the school has 913 students and 48 staff members.Achievements
SJK(C) Han Chiang is active in co-curriculum activities, taking part in many types of sports competitions every year. Most recently in July 2008, the school won the Piala Dato Seri Chia Kwang Chye badminton contest. The school choir also won the Gold award in a choir competition held in Penang on August 2008. The school also produced good results in the UPSR national examination.
