Negin Yamini

Negin Yamini is an Iranian American law student at Hastings College of the Law.

Biography

Her family was persecuted following the 1979 Islamic revolution for being Jewish. After various members of her family were imprisoned and tortured by the Islamic regime, her family fled Iran to Pakistan, living illegally in Karachi, then later fleeing to Austria.

As an illegal immigrant in Austria, she was not allowed to attend public school and was thus forced to self-educate. Successful in autodidacticism, she was awarded a full scholarship to UCLA.

Inspired by her experiences as an illegal immigrant, she has spent years promoting pro-immigrant legislation in the United States.
