- Varun Gandhi
Feroze Varun Gandhi (born
March 13 ,1980 ) is the only son of the lateSanjay Gandhi and Indian PoliticianManeka Gandhi .Formerly a student of law and economics at the
London School of Economics , he then completed his Masters from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. He is currently a member of the
BJP National executive and one of the main political campaigners of the party. He is seen by party seniors and political analysts to be the youth face of the party and to be the front runner for the third generation leadership of the party in the future.Varun has written widely on issues of National security and external affairs. He also wrote a book of poems titled "The otherness of self" which became an instant bestseller and one of the bestselling books of the year.
Varun was not yet 25 during the 2004 General Elections, and therefore could not contest. He was seen by many to have risen in the BJP ranks too quickly and this was widely reported to have angered second-rung party bosses. He was reported to have turned down several posts such as the Chief of the National Youth Wing, and the National Secretary and President of the Uttar Pradesh state unit. His political debut in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh was one of the most awaited debuts in recent times; however in a stunning upset, the BJP denied him the ticket claiming that he was being groomed to take over Uttar Pradesh leadership. He was later offered a ticket from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, which he refused. Nonetheless, the media has reported that his mother Maneka will vacate her six-time constituency of Pilibhit for Feroze Varun during the 2009 elections, while she will contest from neighboring Aonla [ [http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?newsid=1145378 DNA - India - Maneka does a Sonia in UP - Daily News & Analysis ] ] .
