- Obiba
Obiba is an open source project whose aim is to build an open software infrastructure on which biobanks around the world can depend and to which they can contribute. Obiba is supported by the [http://www.p3gconsortium.org Public Population Project in Genomics Consortium] (P3G) and is currently one if its core projects.
P3G defines the Obiba project as follow: "The Obiba Project will provide an open source information management system for biobanks that can be used as is, or be adapted. This information system will support a wide range of biobank activities and will include data exchange interfaces to facilitate sharing between different installations." [http://www.p3gobservatory.org/scientificAction.do P3G description of the Obiba project. Retrived 2007-11-16]
Obiba includes a set of tools that will be gradually augmented over 2008. Right now, its only tool is the GenoByte API.
GenoByte
GenoByte is a Java API for storing and querying data resulting from the aggregation of high-throughput genotyping experiments across many subjects. It organizes its data in a Column-Oriented fashion, following the theory of the TAXIR accessioner. [http://home.comcast.net/~tolkin.family/taxir1.htm The Theory of the TAXIR Accessioner.
