- Terminal web
The terminal web is a filamentous structure found at the apical surface of epithelial cells that possess
microvilli . It is comprised primarily of filaments ofspectrin andMyosin II [cite journal | author = Hirokawa N, Tilney LG, Fujiwara K, and Heuser JE | title = Organization of actin, myosin, and intermediate filaments in the brush border of intestinal epithelial cells. | journal = J Cell Biol | volume = 94 | issue = 2 | pages = 425–43 | year = 1982 | pmid = 7202010 | doi = 10.1083/jcb.94.2.425 [http://www.jcb.org/cgi/reprint/94/2/425 link] ] . The Myosin II molecules in the terminal web endow this structure with contractile activities [cite journal | author = Keller TC 3rd, Mooseker MS | title = Ca++-calmodulin-dependent phosphorylation of myosin, and its role in brush border contraction in vitro. | journal = J Cell Biol | volume = 95 | issue = 3 | pages = 943–59 | year = 1982 | pmid = 6897550 | doi = 10.1083/jcb.95.3.943 [http://www.jcb.org/cgi/reprint/95/3/943 link] ] [cite journal | author = Keller TC 3rd, Conzelman KA, Chasan R, Mooseker MS. | title = Role of myosin in terminal web contraction in isolated intestinal epithelial brush borders. | journal = J Cell Biol | volume = 100 | issue = 5 | pages = 1647–55 | year = 1985 | pmid = 3988804 | doi = 10.1083/jcb.100.5.1647 [http://www.jcb.org/cgi/reprint/100/5/1647 link] ] .References
