- Floksmen
One of the most important myths, or stories, of the island of
Fugloy in theFaroe Islands , is the story of the Floksmen, they were a "flok" (group) ofrebels , in theMiddle Ages , which was from Fugloy. The most notorious of the rebels, (referred by the Danish governmental and officials inThorshavn ) were Høgni Nev, Rògvi Skel, Hálvdan Ulvsson from the Bygd,Hattarvík and Sjúrður við kellingará, fromKirkja .These men controlled and savaged the northern parts of the Faroe islands for a long time. This is one of the most importantSeparatist myths of the Faroe Islands. The more smart and bright Sjúrður við kellingará was forced to go the more militant way of rebellion by Høgni Nev and Hálvdan Ulvsson that maybe were more criminal minded than Sjúrður við kellingará. All the four men were later on caught and were sentenced to death, but Sjúrður við kellingará was shown mercy and amnesty, but the story is that he could not live on with the crimes that the others and himself had committed under their "little" rebellion and asked to be executed with the other floksmen.
