Marvin Kanarek

Marvin Kanarek is a Canadian artist, drummer, and songwriter.

Biography

Born in Havana, Cuba, he spent his early years in Toronto, Canada, where he worked with many seminal Canadian bands as a drummer, including Rough Trade with Carole Pope and Kevan Staples.

Kanarek moved to Los Angeles where he continued his career as a touring and recording drummer, working in the studio or onstage with Burton Cummings, Janis Ian, Randy Bachman, The Bonedaddys and The Beach Boys. Kanarek also continued many series of paintings and drawings with showings in Los Angeles and Toronto.

Kanarek moved his band "BlueX" with partners Menno Froese and Greg Marchant to France in early 1992. He stayed on in France after BlueX returned to the USA. He performed with many legendary French artists including Jean Pierre Morgand of "Les Avions" fame. Kanarek also performed as a drummer/songwriter/vocalist in his Disney Label band "Broken Eyes".

Kanarek had nine private gallery showings in France culminating in the very popular "Loin de Cuba" show exhibiting with Cuba's most legendary expatriate artists at Le Musée de Tapisseries in Aix-en-Provence.

Marvin now spends his time between Los Angeles, Toronto and Paris.
