Abrasion are a death metal trio form in Melbourne, Australia in 1996 by vocalist and guitarist Adam Shirley and drummer Paul Toth. The current line-up features Shirley, Toth and Nick Rackem on bass. Since the band's 2001 independent release "Anti Population", they have developed a loyal cult following in Melbourne's underground metal scene,Fact|date=January 2008 which was also built up from their frequent live shows at popular Melbourne venues such as the Tote and Esplanade Hotel.Fact|date=January 2008 Songs from "Anti Population" and "Violent Core Traction" have also been featured on Triple J's heavy metal music program "Full Metal Racket" has well as Melbourne radio station 3RRR.Fact|date=January 2008
