Conservation Foundation, UK

The Conservation Foundation, a registered charity in the UK, was founded in 1982 by Prof David Bellamy and David Shreeve. Prof Bellamy is the President of the Foundation and David Shreeve is its Executive Director.

Structure

The charity is governed by a Board of Directors and supported by a Council. It has two full-time members of staff, two part-time and four regular volunteers. Based in the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington its activities have covered every continent on Earth.

Aims

The Foundation believes that sustainability is the only way to guarantee the future viability of our environment. That, and increasing education – particularly to people in their own communities - and discovering simple, cost-effective solutions.

Activities

For the past twenty-nine years the Conservation Foundation has played a unique role in the conservation movement. It is a lean green machine relying entirely on a small professional team and a group of volunteers. It has spread the good news that more and more industries and communities are taking up the conservation challenge and succeeding to make a real difference.

Funding

Thanks to commercial sponsorship, government funding and valuable awards from charitable trusts and foundations and individuals, the Foundation has been able to provide funds for a large number of projects that meet its criteria. This assistance can be vital in moving an 'idea' into 'action' and onto a state where it can undertake its own fundraising.
