William Radenhurst Mosedale was awarded the

Birmingham Fire Brigade , and a rescue officer in the use of breathing apparatus, he tunnelled for nearly 12 hours in extremely dangerous conditions to rescue a dozen trapped people after his fire station had itself been destroyed by a high explosive bomb, trapping a number of firemen in the rubble and burying civilians in an adjoining dwelling.His award was announced in the
London Gazette on28 March 1941 .
