He played football professionally forRed Star Belgrade inSerbia ,Bonnyrigg White Eagles Football Club inAustralia ,AS Cherbourg Football andPau FC inFrance , andKansas City Wizards in theUnited States , before ending his playing career aged 28, due to a knee injury. He met his compatriot, coachSlavoljub Muslin while playing atPau FC , and, following the injury that forced him to end his career, Janković became Muslin's assistant in Red Star, Metalurh Donetsk, Levski Sofia, Lokeren, and Lokomotiv Moscow, respectively.From July 2007, he has been an advance scout in Red Star, and his duties mainly included scouting opponents' players and tactics.
