Azima Shukoor

Ms Aishath Azima Shakoor is currently Attorney General of the Maldives.

She is a lawyer and she was formerly a deputy at the Ministry of Home Affairs. She is a member of parliament appointed by the President and President of Women's Wing of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP). She has been widely criticized. However, the Chair of the parliament (who is appointed by the President) rejected a motion against her. She is commonly known for a person who gives wrong legal opinion. She also works in favour of Dhivei Rayyithunge Party. There was a huge negative impact on her popularity when she came in front of the public and talked about delaying the ratification of the constitution.

Her predecessor as Attorney General was Dr. Hassan Saeed, who brought considerable reform within the existing legal framework. Dr Hassan Saeed resigned from the cabinet after criticizing the implementation of the reform agenda. This cabinet resignation, together with Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, was followed by a press conference and was the first of its kind in the Republic of Maldives.
