Tasmania , convert|126|km|mi|0|lk=on north-west of the state capital Hobart, and slightly closer to Queenstown.The township was originally built in the 1930s by the
Hydro Electric Commission to house Tasmania's pioneering hydro electricity officers and management. The area is famous for it's alpine lakes and mountains, and manyhydro-electric dams, canals and giant steel pipeways. It is also right on the doorstep of the southwest Tasmanian world heritage wilderness, and the forests of the area provide spectacular scenery. Tarraleah is located along theLyell Highway , and is only a short distance from bothLake King William andBronte Lagoon .Lake Lipootah andBrady's Lake are also closeby.Today, after a multi-million dollar redevelopment, the 300-acre estate that comprises Tarraleah Lodge offers a range of accommodation, dining options, facilities and activities.
