Nauruan constitutional referendum, 2008

A referendum on constitutional changes will be held in Nauru in 2008. [ [http://www.abc.net.au/ra/tokpisin/news/s2076573.htm Nauru bai i holim referendum long sanisim mama-loa blongen] ABC] Among the changes proposed is a provision to provide for a directly elected president, as opposed to a president elected by parliament, as well as a bill of rights.

The referendum -which, as of August 8, 2008, had not yet been held- will be part of the Nauru Constitutional Review Project, supported by the United Nations Democracy Fund.
