Fahraeus-Lindquist effect
- Fahraeus-Lindquist effect
The Fahraeus-Lindqvist effect is an effect where the viscosity of a fluid, in this case blood, changes with the diameter of the tube it travels through; in particular there's a decrease of viscosity decreasing the tube's diameter (only if the vessel diameter is between 10 and 300 micrometers). This because erythrocytes move over the center of the vessel, leaving plasma at the limits of the conduct.
