former_affiliations =WBAU was a WB 100+ channel for the
Augusta, Georgia area, which was seen on cable channel 23 on most cable systems.The station was launched in 2000, picking up the affiliation from
WBEK-CA .In 2004, WBAU launched "WB 23 News at Ten", which was produced by local
NBC affiliateWAGT .When
Time Warner andCBS mergedThe WB andUPN intoThe CW , The WB 100+ would be phased out, being replaced withThe CW Plus . Since WAGT was managing and promoting the station a bit for a while, they received rights to carry The CW Plus. WAGT decided to do away with the "WBAU" call sign upon relaunch on their digital subchannel, and because CW Plus stations are generally branded with the city or region name (subchannels are digital, and dont have exact channel numbers, and they are not cable only).WBAU officially signed off for the last time in September 2006 when the CW network was launched. CW Augusta is now seen on the cable channel WBAU used to occupy.
