He worked with the famous chemistErnest Rutherford to find out the radioactive characteristics ofThorium compounds. As a professional he worked in theFranklin Institute situated inPhiladelphia ,USA [ [http://www.fi.edu/case_files/wright_2603/medium/wright_140314_letter.jpghttp://www.fi.edu/case_files/wright_2603/medium/wright_140314_letter.jpg] ] . Rutherford and Owens worked together on the radiation of Thorium and found a new puzzle. One day Owens open the door of their laboratory harshly and air floe caused by that opening lessen the reaction of Thorium production. So they came to the conclusion that, some radioactive gas coming out continuously from Thorium. They named this gas asemanation of Thorium. It was the discovery of emanation.
