Étienne Marie Antoine Champion de Nansouty

Étienne Marie Antoine Champion de Nansouty (May 30, 1768 in Bordeaux; † February 12, 1815 in Paris), was a French cavalry general during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars.

Nansouty was admitted to the military school in 1782, graduating in 1783. In 1785 he was appointed a lieutenant in the regiment of Bourgogne. In 1788 he entered the cavalry as a captain. By 1792 he had been promoted to lieutenant-colonel.

Nansouty fought in 1800 under Moreau in the Hohenlinden campaign. During 1805-1807, he commanded a division of cuirassiers, whom he lead at Ulm, Austerlirz, Eylau and Friedland. In 1808, Nansouty accompagnied Napoleon into Spain. When Napoleon had to return to Germany in 1809, Nansouty commanded guard cavalry at Wagram. He was wounded at Battle of Borodino, where he commanded the First Reserve Cavalry Corps, and the following year he commanded the cavalry of the guard at Dresden, Leipzig, Hanau and Montmirail. After Craonne he left the service due to injuries. Under the Bourbon restoration he shortly served Louis XVIII of France until his death in February 1815.
