Florian Dombois (b. 1966 in
Berlin ) is an artist and does research on tectonics and other natural phenomena.Dombois studied
geophysics andphilosophy inBerlin ,Kiel andHawaii and wrote his PhD inAmsterdam andBerlin . After that he has developed a concept of "Art as Research" to extend scientific modes of expression. His oeuvre includes sound installations and multiples (a.o. Akademie der Künste (Berlin), Japanisches Kulturinstitut Köln), a CD, a DVD, an art book on seismic stations (Verlag Walther König), three virtual environments on global tectonics resp. the volcanoMerapi (shown a.o. atCeBIT Hannover), a concert, several scientific papers and essays, two patents, talks, conference contributions and lectureships at art schools and universities (a.o.Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe, Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, Artcenter Los Angeles, ATR Kioto).
