Down Royal Champion Chase

The James Nicholson Wine Merchant Champion Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt chase in Ireland for five-year-old and above horses. It is run over a distance of 3 miles (4,828 metres) at Down Royal racecourse in November.

It was first run in 1999 over 3 miles 1 furlong and has been run over the current distance since 2000. The 2005 running was abandoned after bomb warnings were telephoned to the racecourse. [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/4410158.stm]
