Late of the Pier are an English four-piece band from Castle Donington, currently signed to Parlophone Records. They have released five singles to date (Space and the Woods/Heartbeat, Bathroom Gurgle/VW, The Bears are Coming the re-recorded album version of Space and the Woods, teamed with Focker for a double A-side and Hearbeat). Their album "Fantasy Black Channel" was released on 11th August, with the album version of "Heartbeat" released a week prior to it.

They have garnered a large teenage fanbase from night clubs such as All Ages club, Filthy Few [www.myspace.com/filthyfewuk] , Pat and Trevor, Death Disco, Transparent [www.myspace.com/transparentmagazine] . They even played the first ever Underage Festival, in August 2007.

Lead singer Samuel Eastgate also has a side-project, La Priest, often written incorrectly as LA Priest. He has numerous productions and has made several remixes, as well as having the song "Engine" being remixed by Erol Alkan and released via Erol’s Phantasy Sound label.

History

Late Of The Pier formed in 2001 [ [http://www.lateofthepier.20m.com/ Late Of The Pier ] ] . Their debut single, Space And The Woods, was released through WayOutWest Records in March 2007. This was limited to 500 copies only.

Their second single, Bathroom Gurgle, was produced by Erol Alkan and released in September 2007 by Moshi Moshi Records. Like their previous release, this was also limited to 500 copies.

An edit of 'Broken' appeared on the Kitsune Maison 5 compilation credited as the Fairy Lights mix [ [http://www.kitsune.fr/music/maison_5/kitsunecda011 Kitsune Kitsuné Maison 5 ] ] . However, this was just an edit of the track by the band, with no such act as Fairy Lights existing. Their third single, The Bears Are Coming, was released on 12" and download only, with 7" versions being sold exclusively on their February 2008 tour with a demo version of 'Piss Hands' as the b-side. This was released through their own Zarcorp label. Their fourth single, a double A-side including new versions of Space and the Woods and Focker, was released following a headline slot on the Levi's Ones To Watch tour.

In July 2008, Late of the Pier had their Somerset House gig filmed and broadcast live on Channelbee.

Musical Style

Their style has often been compared to the artists Gary Numan, Brian Eno, Frank Zappa, Stephen Dubrich, Bill Nelson of Be Bop Deluxe fame and the more contemporary Metronomy and Klaxons, mainly due to the prominent use of synthesisers in their music meshed in an off-kilter pop style.
