Antoine-Geneviève-Héraclius-Agénor de Gramont

Antoine IX Héraclius-Agénor de Gramont, duc de Guiche and then duc de Gramont, was a French aristocrat. He was born in the Palace of Versailles on 7 June 1789 and died in 1855.

De Gramont was the son of Antoine VIII de Gramont and Aglaé de Polignac, daughter of the Duchesse de Polignac, a court favourite of Marie Antoinette.

Born in the year of the French Revolution, Antoine and his family left the country for England, Russia, Italy and Austria.

In Russia, when de Gramont was 9 years old, he was made lieutenant in the Tauride regiment, serving Suvarov, the Russian general. The young duc de Guiche meet his father in Mittau, where he was with Louis XVIII. His sister, Aglaé Angélique Gabrielle, at that time married an older general, named Aleksandr Lvovich Davydov.

He then went to England to complete his education.
