Peter Winkler is a noted research mathematician, author of more than 125 research papers in mathematics and patent holder in a broad range of applications, ranging from
cryptography to marinenavigation . His research areas includediscrete mathematics ,theory of computation andprobability theory .He is currently a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science atDartmouth College .Peter Winkler studied Mathematics in the University of Harvard and later received his PhD in 1975 from Yale University. He has also served as an Assistant Professor in Stanford and as a Mathematics Research Director in Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies.
He is also known to be a
mathematical puzzles maven having published among others the classical "Mathematical Puzzles:A connoisseur's collection", that lists a number of fascinating puzzles spanning in diverse areas of mathematics, likegame theory ,number theory ,combinatorics and others.References
