Progression (Software)
"Progression" is a program created by Notion Music for
Microsoft Windows andMac OS X . "Progression" focuses on composition for guitar, but users can also compose for keyboards (piano, electric piano, and clavinet), bass (electric and upright), and drums (standard rock drum set). Notion Music also offers several other programs called Notion and Protege. Notion and Protege are focused around composition in the orchestral setting.Operation
The default document is a single
treble clef staff for electric guitar. Any of the included instruments (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums) can be added to the score by accessing the "score" menu. The interface also includes a transport which includes return, rewind, ntempo, play, stop, and midi input controls (record, step record, and velocity overdub). The tool bar located on the right side of the screen consists of bar selection, note entry selection, articulations, key signature, text box, chord library, staff selection, and dynamics. Located below the tool bar is the audio mixer which allows the user to change; pan, volume, and effects (included is the Revalver MKII amp simulator) to the selected instrument. On the left side of the screen the user can input notes via the "virtual fretboard."Capabilities
Progression utilizes both
standard notation andtablature . Users can enter notes with a number of shortcuts including; w-whole note, h-half note, q-quarter note, e-eighth note, s-sixteenth note, and t-thirty second note. By pressing the same key twice users can access rests. Virtually all score elements can be accessed by using keyboard shortcuts.Music can be entered by playing (real-time) a MIDI instrument connected to the computer. The user may also choose to enter music via MIDI instrument in "step." In this mode the user chooses the duration of the note and enters the pitch sequentially via MIDI instrument.
