It is located km to mi | 6 | abbr=yes | precision=0 south of Urlingford, County Kilkenny. It is km to mi | 3 | abbr=yes | precision=0 southeast of the N8 Dublin - Cork road. Gortnahoe which is pronounced as Gortnahoo by the locals, forms part of the united parish of Glegoole-Gortnahoe.
