Robin Jacob (director)

Born to an English Father and German Mother in Essen, Germany in 1955, Robin Jacob grew up in Hendon, North London, United Kingdom.

He attended Bell Lane Primary School where he was taught Drama by Anna Scher who later went on to set up The Anna Scher Theatre in Islington. Thereafter Robin went on to Hendon County Grammar School leaving in 1975. Drama and sports were his favourite subjects and it was during his last year at Bell Lane where his then teacher Anna Scher cast him in the lead role in the school play, 'The Mayflower'. From then on the acting/film bug caught him.

He has spent the last 25 years in Asia, predominantly in the Philippines and Singapore, producing and directing: pop videos, commercials, documentaries and movies. He has also produced dozens of music albums for such artists as Freddie Aguilar, (he produced and financed 'Kumusta Ka', the biggest ever selling album in the Philippines, 2 million+),SPY and Salatin.

In 1990 he won a Creative Award at the US Film & Video Festival for his doucmentray Freddie Aguilar a Child of the Revolution.

In 1990 also directed the Pop Video "Paraiso" for the Philippine group Smokey Mountain (band). The video featured several shots of the rubbish tip in Metro Manila called Smokey Mountain and there were attempts by the Aquino Government to ban the video. However strong opposition from the composer Ryan Cayayab and the band itself stopped that from happening.

Robin Jacob won a Telly Award in 2005 for his documentary 'The Battle of Manila'. He continues to produce and direct documentaries about Asia.

Robin Jacob is currently working on the movie 1066 (http://1066themovie.biz) with author Helen Hollick (Harold the King, The King Maker). Attached to the movie are Mark Lester (Oliver), Ian Whyte (Alien V Predator), Marty Klebba (Pirates of the Caribbean)
