footnotes = Gatuna is a boarder town in the Kabale District of Uganda bordering Rwanda.

It is in Kamuganguzi sub county (Ndorwa county). Gatuna is a Kinyarwanda word but in Uganda it is called Katuna. It is a major entrance point to Rwanda and handles most of Rwanda's imports and exports as most goods from the coast to Rwanda pass through Uganda. Gatuna is 22 kilometers from Kabale town and is growing fast because of the many foreigners passing through.

Until 1926 Gatuna was in the then Belgian Rwanda. It was the major exit for political deserters such as Kinuma who came to settle in the present day Rubaya sub county. Gatuna became a part of the then British Uganda after the demarkation of the Uganda-Rwanda border in 1926 based on an agreement between the British and Belgian governments. This was the last part to become part of Uganda.

Rubaya subcounty is the wheat area in the region and has several traditional practices such as naming with identities as oribakiriho [http://www.muk.ac.ug] , kazinda, kikamurugaho, Mihayo [http://www.must.ac.ug] , bahemuka, bakeihahwenki rwahama and some kinyarwanda names such as mukantabana since accordingly 70% of people who live there were in Rwanda before the independence of Uganda in 1962.

Kamuganguzi on the other hand is along the main road to Kigali and people there believe to be more social compared to those in Rubaya and have access to Katuna since it is found inside Kamuganguzi. However similar trends exist such names as zirimwabagabo, biriso, musekura, kashozi and kamanyire.
