Jimmy McCambridge

Jimmy McCambridge

James "Jimmy" McCambridge (born September 9, 1905 in Larne, died 1980), was a footballer. He was capped 4 times by Ireland.

Jimmy began his career in his home country of Ireland playing for Larne and Ballymena United before moving to England with Everton. While at Goodison Park he was understudy to the legendary Everton striker Dixie Dean. In January 1931 he joined Cardiff City and scored twice in his debut for the club, a 3-2 defeat against West Bromwich Albion. In the 1931-32 season McCambridge set a new club record of 26 league goals, a record which stood for 15 years until it was broken by Stan Richards. Surprisingly McCambridge, who had finished as the clubs top scorer for the previous two years, was allowed to leave in 1933 to join Bristol Rovers. He moved around several times in the following years, playing at Exeter City, Sheffield Wednesday F.C., Hartlepool United and Cheltenham Town in the Southern League.
