Andrew Ingram b.1841 was Headmaster of Swain School [ cite web|last=Ingraham|first=Andrew|title =Swain School Lectures, 1903, pp 10|url=http://ia301332.us.archive.org/2/items/swainschoollectu00ingruoft/swainschoollectu00ingruoft.pdf|accessdate = 2007-10-25 ] before 1903.

He is credited with the invention of the Gostak concept [cite book|date=1923|last=Ogden|first=C. K.|coauthors=I. A. Richards|authorlink=C. K. Ogden|title=The Meaning of Meaning|pages=46]

He also edited various prefaces to standard literary texts [ cite web|title =Introduction to the Canterbury Tales|url=http://www.archive.org/details/prologuetobookof00chauuoft|accessdate = 2007-10-25 ]
