Anami Narayan Roy

Anami Narayan Roy

Anami Narayan Roy is the Police Commissioner of Mumbai. He took over as the police chief on 5 February, 2004 under controversial circumstances after the previous Commissioner was shunted out based on the Home Minister's orders. His major task since he took over was the investigation into the Telgi scam worth crores of rupees. Roy is an Indian Police Service officer and was the commissioner of the nearby city of Pune before taking over.

Contrary to the Roy surname which is Bengali, he is from Uttar Pradesh. His surname is actually Srivastav, but it was never used. The line was given the title Rai, which in the course of history was changed to Roy.

Roy has been in service for 33 years, and has been transferred 21 times, once when his wife was about to deliver, and next when the baby was a week old.

He has introduced a single window system to clear all the 25 licences that are required from the police.
