- River Sence
The River Sence is a
Leicestershire tributary of the largerRiver Soar . The River Sence can be traced eastwards up to the village ofBillesdon , and then flows south west throughGreat Glen, Leicestershire , and then west (south ofWigston andSouth Wigston ) until theconfluence with the River Soar just to the west ofBlaby . Tracing the River Sence upstream theEnvironment Agency does monitor the river between Blaby and Great Glen, but there has been no significant flooding in recent years, and the land along the River Sence is largely agricultural. The River Sence also has a branches to the west of theRiver Soar , extending into the west and north west reaches of Leicestershire, towardsIbstock and evenTamworth . It is difficult to trace all of these branches and the network of tributaries, but there is a 6km section of the river in north west Leicestershire that has seen extensive habitat restoration work. The Wild Trout Trust, Gopsall Angling Club and theEnvironment Agency have been working together to restore a section of the river where habitats had declined as a result of land-drainage issues.External links
