"Veremonda, l'amazzone di Aragona" ("Veremonda, the Amazon of
Aragon "; also known as "Il Delio") is anopera in three acts and a prologue by the Italian composerFrancesco Cavalli . Thelibretto is by Giulio Cicognini with revisions byGiulio Strozzi . The opera was first performed at the Nuovo Teatro del Palazzo Reale inNaples on21 December ,1652 , to celebrate the Spanish capture ofBarcelona , which put an end to the revolt ofCatalonia (Naples was also a Spanish possession). It was revived inVenice on28 January 1653 .ource
