Gometz le Châtel is a French communes of the Essonne département, localized in southern suburb of Paris "(around 25 km)". Inhabitant of Gometz le Châtel are named Gometzien "(male)" and Gometzienne "(female)".

Geography

This village is nearby Les Ulis, Limours, Gif-sur-Yvette and Gometz-le-Châtel, alone the old road from Paris to Chartres, crossing the Hurepoix.

History

* A train line was built between Paris to Chartres, created by Gallardon, at the beginning of the 20th Century, with a station at Gometz le Châtel. It was used from 1931 to 1939, but where is no traffic nowadays. Paris RER, B line, is used to go where by train "(Bures-sur-Yvette (Paris RER) or La Hacquinière (Paris RER) + Buses)".
* A experimental Aerotrain was built, from Gometz le Châtel to Rambouillet, for test, from 1966 to 1977, from a creation of Jean Bertin "(train ingeneer)". This project was stopped, for TGV's one, using rightnow.

Demographics

At the 1999 census, the population was 986. The estimate for 2005 was formatnum:1002.

Inhabitants of Gometz-la-Ville are known as "Gometziens".
