"Kochia" is indigenous to Australia, North America, Europe and Asia, and some species have become agricultural weeds due to introduction in non-native lands. Taxonomic standards for this genus are in flux, and some members are identified as "Bassia ". Many Australian species have been split off to form the new genus "Maireana ".Species include:
