- Dunk hoops
DUNK HOOPS (aka Dunk Ball) is a variation of the game of basketball, played on basketball hoops with lowered (under basketball regulation 10 feet) rims.
History
Dunk Hoops unofficially originated when the popularity of the slam dunk grew in the
National Basketball Association (NBA) and American Basketball Association (ABA). Children and adults alike marveled at the athleticism of basketball greats such asWilt Chamberlain ,Julius Erving andMichael Jordan , who dunked the ball regularly in games and excited fans. In order to personally experience the thrill of the slam dunk, people began playing on short basketball hoops or lowering adjustable basketball hoops under 10 feet in gymnasiums, backyards, driveways, etc. And from the craze of lowered hoops basketball grew the subculture known simply as Dunk Hoops. The quality of adjustable hoop manufacturers has now led to greater lifespans of lowered hoops, resulting in a growing popularity of the sport which historically suffered from broken or damaged hoops from the excessive dunking.Rules
Rules vary immensely in Dunk Hoops. Rules vary from the strict rules of standard basketball to the loose rules of
streetball . Courts vary from a standard full court to half court or just a driveway hoop. The amount of players can be as much as 5-on-5, but typically is 3-4 players per team. Standard basketball rules usually apply, except most games take advantage of the lowered rims and use their own alteredgoaltending rules.External links
